Finally Mahindra has broken its silence after long wait and announced the name for the new mini SUV from its hoard. High Points • Badged as the QUANTO. This continues with Mahindra's tradition of UV names ending with an "o" (Bolero, Xylo, Scorpio etc.). • Looks far better than the regular Xylo which has an ungainly rear end. Here, the design is tighter. • Launch around or before Diwali. • Spare wheel mounted on the tail-gate to give it an "SUV" look, rather than MUV. • 7 seater version confirmed! 3rd row of seats are the side-folding type and entry is from the tail-gate. They get butterfly windows (as seen in the pictures below). • Length is less than 4 meters - without the spare wheel - thus, the mini-Xylo falls in the lower 12% excise slab. India's first <4 meter MUV. • Zero luggage space with 7 passengers. Fold the 3rd row away for cargo. • 1.5L common-rail diesel engine confirmed. • Shock pricing strategy starting at 5 - 6 lakhs for the base. Development costs were minimal, as it's based on the 3 year old Xylo. Then, there is the smaller (cheaper) engine and lower excise duties. Mahindra badly wants the mini-Xylo to succeed as the full size Xylo has had an ordinary market run (~2,300 units per month). • The vehicle is now ready for production. • Interiors to benefit from the improvements of the facelift Xylo. • Top variant gets ABS, airbags, 6-spoke alloy wheels, steering-mounted audio controls, bluetooth compatibility, height-adjustable driver's seat, reverse parking assist, adjustable lumbar support and center armrest for driver & front passenger. Maybe leather seats & voice commands too. Attachments:

Does the mini Xylo has the same width and height as the regular Xylo? That would result in real awkward proportions (not to mention the stability issues now with reduced wheelbase)

Wow thanks for the Information Buddy.
This year has been too good for the UV?SUV segment and we can segments created within this segment! whats interesting is with the price tag and the size Quanto can eat up hatch's market share aswel, and i presume it can dent the Boleros market aswel!
With so many options around the "buyer" is the actual winner!

First of all it is not a seven seater by any stretch of imagination. The last row is just a gimmic. It doesn't have a cab forward design and is under 4 m in length. Ertiga makes a much better seven seater for taxi segment than the quanto.
Only thing which would entice taxiwallas to go for this would be the price. But if it is a 5 seater that you need (which is what you will be getting with quanto), then they have already got an option in the Indica. Added advantages of a compact SUV isn't something the average taxi wallah would be looking for.
This seems a better bet for the private customers who would want a small go-anywhere car for his weekend escapades that also can be used effectively within the city.

If the base model is 5-5.5 lacs exshowroom, M&M Have a winner. People looking for a hatchback might also upgrade to Quanto. Good hatches set you back by 6-7 lacs today. an SUV at 6 lacs onroad is lucrative.
SAles will be added by the Taxi market, Where a cabbie wants to upgrade his ageing Indica and Sumo. I for one would buy it.
I am eagerly looking out for whether safety features are available on the Quanto

Hi Guys, This is going to be priced between 4.5 to 7 Lacs (Ex-Showroom). That means the on road price of quanto will be around 4.8 lac for base variant.
There is a possibility that Mahindra will follow Renault's way and offer two models with different engines, the one producing 70 bhp of power while the other will generate 100+ Bhp.
Anyhow, I am going to buy one even if it is a strictly 5-seater SUV as far as the "SUV" tag is there. The aerodynamics etc. also matters but not for people who have to drive this into city mostly.

Looks like the XUV met the Wagon R somewhere and ...U know the Delly Belly Dialogue ! Neverthless value for money is what I see.
Interestingly there is a similar looking vehicle in China. The Volkswagen Crossgolf. Comes with the rear tyre on the back like an SUV. It was surely the smallest Crossover which I have ever come across.
Mahindra is going all out on the vehicles.. With the Quanto, Ssangyong Rexton, new Reva, supposed Verito hatchback.
Wonder when will the Bolero 4x4, Thar with a Hard Top come out.
